“We can build him” – Manchester City want to sign Chelsea 21-year-old Chelsea player in January.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are interested in signing Ian Maatsen from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in the January transfer window.
That is according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who has claimed that another Premier League club have an eye on Maatsen
So, what has been reported about Chelsea, Manchester City and Ian Maatsen? Let’s take a look.
Manchester City and West Ham United linked with Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen
Well, according to Rudy Galetti on X, Manchester City and West Ham United are interested in signing Ian Maatsen from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The Italian journalist has claimed that Chelsea are ready to sell Maatsen, who can operate as a left-back or as a winger.
Galetti has added that Borussia Dortmund are keen on the 21-year-old as well and are “intensifying contacts”.
Maatsen has been on the books of Chelsea since 2018 and has had loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City and Burnley in recent years. He is rated highly.
The Netherlands Under-21 international left-back is out of contract at Chelsea in the summer of 2025.
My View: Ian Maatsen should move to Manchester City
In my view, if Manchester City make an offer for Ian Maatsen in the January transfer window, then the left-back should certainly make the move to the Etihad Stadium.
City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, have one of the most exciting teams in the world and a genuinely great manager in Pep Guardiola.
Sergio Gomez is the only recognised left-back in the current City squad at the moment, so Maatsen could get chances, if not now, then certainly in the long run.
Maatsen has made 12 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He is just starting his career, and I think that working with a manager like Guardiola would help him a lot.
