Wolves vs Chelsea: Date, Time, Team News and Injury Update, Prediction...
Chelsea will be hoping to carry their momentum from their 2-0 win over Servette in midweek over to this weekend, as they look to secure Enzo Maresca's first Premier League victory as Blues manager against Wolves, at the Molineux on Sunday evening, 25th August, 2025, 15:00 UK time.
Gary O'Neil's side have won their last three Premier League games against Chelsea though, the same amount as they had done in their previous 17 meetings. The Blues have also failed to keep a clean sheet on the road in their last 16 matches, their longest run in the league since 1994.
There is some good news for Chelsea though, with new signing Joao Felix set to play this weekend after he arrived on a seven-year deal from Atletico Madrid earlier this week. But what other stars will be available for the clash and who will miss out?
Cole Palmer
The Chelsea star was spotted hobbling straight down the tunnel in midweek after coming on as a substitute in the second half of Chelsea's Europa Conference League Playoff first leg win over Servette. Maresca cleared the air about the concern and it may mean he comes off the bench again if the Italian doesn't want to risk him aggravating the issue.
Injury: Knock.
What Maresca has said: "Cole, he felt something but he looks fine. They have already checked him. He looks fine, he is okay. Hopefully there is no problem and he can be involved in Sunday's game."
Possible return date: Wolves (A) - August 25.
Marc Cucurella
Cucurella was forced off in the Blues' season opener against Man City with what appeared to be a knee injury as he was seen clutching his leg grimacing. His teammates immediately looked towards the bench and signalled that the Spain international needed to come off and Maresca turned towards his options on the bench.
After being replaced by Renato Veiga, Cucurella was spotted walking on his own around the side of the pitch back towards the bench seemingly in some discomfort. He was an unused substitute against Servette, meaning Maresca is likely keeping him fresh for this weekend's clash.
Injury: Unknown.
Possible return date: Wolves (A) - August 25.
Reece James
According to The Athletic, Reece James has suffered a setback in training. It is described as being a small injury but Chelsea will nonetheless be wary of rushing back their captain after such a poor fitness record over two years.
James is not available for the first game of the season against Manchester City anyway due to a ban. He was seen hobbling down the tunnel in America on pre- season after being taken off.
The 24-year-old had hamstring surgery last season before returning for the final few months. James could be out until after the first international break of the season.
Injury: Hamstring.
What James has said: "
Good to be back on the grass."
What Maresca has said: "It depends on the injury because sometimes, if it's a kick, it's not because training is no good, it's an unlucky kick and you got injured. The only thing I can say, and I wasn't here last year, is that in one month, we have had just one injury problem which is Reece.
"Unfortunately, he got an injury two or three minutes before we were going to change him, otherwise we would have avoided it. That can happen. Sometimes injuries can be because of different things, but we are managing the situation well."
Possible return date: Bournemouth (A) - September 14.
Carney Chukwuemeka
The midfielder was another left out of Maresca's matchday squad against City on Sunday afternoon but he's not believed to be injured as Maresca noted in his post-match press conference. If he does not move elsewhere before the end of the transfer window he could, presumably, be reintegrated back into the first- team fold.
Injury: Unknown.
What Maresca has said: "Carney [Chukwuemeka] is a technical decision."
Possible return date: Crystal Palace (H) - September 1.
